I’m Not a Robot – Rethinking CAPTCHA”

1

Discover (Research & Understand the Problem)

  • Problem: CAPTCHAs frustrate users, break flow, and aren’t accessible.

  • Research shows:

    • CAPTCHAs increase friction & abandonment: Baymard Institute on form usability

    • Accessibility barriers: W3C WCAG Guidelines

    • User frustration with images/text tasks: Nielsen Norman Group – CAPTCHA usability

    • Insights:---

    • People just want a frictionless flow.

    • Accessibility is non-negotiable.

    • Security can be invisible & smart.

2

Define (Problem Statement)

“CAPTCHAs were designed for security, but they often punish real humans.
How might we create a verification method that is secure, accessible, and seamless, without breaking the user’s flow?”

3

Develop (Ideation & Concepts)

 3 Potential Solutions:

  1. Invisible CAPTCHA → background behavioral signals (mouse movement, typing speed).

  2. Micro-gesture verification → swipe, drag, or tap → fast, intuitive, mobile-friendly.

  3. Gamified check → tiny fun task (drag puzzle, match emoji) that feels playful.

4

Deliver

  • Login Page with Invisible CAPTCHA

    • Wireframe: Standard login, no CAPTCHA visible.

    • Final: “You’re signed in securely  (verification done in background).”

  • Swipe to Verify

    • Wireframe: Box with slider → “Swipe to prove you’re human.”

    • Final: Fun micro-animation when slider completes.

  • Drag & Drop Gamified Check

    • Wireframe: “Drag the sun  into the sky” task.

    • Final: Smooth drag → cheerful confirmation.

5

Final Case Study

CAPTCHAs = frustrating, inaccessible, break flow.

  • Discover → user frustrations + accessibility issues.

  • Define → CAPTCHAs punish humans.

  • Develop → invisible + simple gestures + fun alternatives.

  • Deliver → wireframes + Figma prototypes.
